Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian, a professor at Hebrew University, faced a temporary suspension for her controversial remarks denying the rapes committed by Hamas terrorists on October 7 and accusing Israel of genocide. She has now been arrested on charges of incitement.

Approximately two weeks ago, law enforcement authorities recommended launching a criminal investigation against Shalhoub-Kevorkian. Superintendent Yigal Ben Shalo, head of investigations and intelligence in the police, advised the prosecutor’s office to initiate an inquiry into suspicions of incitement.

During a podcast interview, Shalhoub-Kevorkian expressed that Israelis exhibit fear when passing her by while she converses on the phone in Arabic. She remarked, “They should be scared and they should be afraid because criminals are always afraid.”

Further asserting, she stated, “They can’t take ownership over my land, they can’t displace my people, they can’t commit killings without facing fear. So, they should feel fear. And that’s precisely why they’re afraid—they cannot confront us directly. Their perceived strength is merely derived from the support of the international community. Yes, they possess power, but it’s not inherent.”

Continuing her discourse, Shalhoub-Kevorkian declared, “The time has come to dismantle Zionism; that’s the direction I am advocating for today. I cannot continue like this any longer; it’s criminal.”

Last month, Hebrew University announced the suspension of Shalhoub-Kevorkian following her contentious statements. However, she was reinstated approximately a week later.
