“However, that made me sad,” she said of his confusion. “The human aspect of what we’re witnessing right now, to me, is heartbreaking,” she said of the now-80-year-old president facing escalating pressure over his age and a series of gaffes as he runs to stay in office.
Steele recounted her interview with Biden in March 2021, explaining that it was conducted remotely via satellite due to technical difficulties. She couldn’t see the president initially because his camera was covered, but they engaged in small talk while waiting for the technical issues to be resolved. During this conversation, Biden seemed unsure about the purpose of the interview and even struggled to recall Steele’s name, which surprised her. When reminded that the interview was for “SportsCenter” on ESPN, Biden began sharing anecdotes from his high school and college football days, emphasizing his prowess as a halfback and wide receiver. However, Steele noticed that as he recounted these stories, his voice trailed off, and he abruptly stopped, indicating his struggle to communicate effectively.
