Israeli security has been compromised.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have been able to gain access to the private computer of a former Israeli army chief of staff as part of a cyberattack targeting dozens of computers last year, Israel’s Channel 10 news said today, reports i24 News.
The attack is believed to have primarily targeted Israeli security officials in a bid to extract sensitive security information.
The full extent of the damage from the attack won’t be known for a while.
Over 1,800 Israeli computers were targeted in the attack.
Many of these computers belonged to present and former senior IDF officers. One of the officers is a former army chief of staff. His personal computer was hacked by an Iranian hacker, who mistakenly left his email address behind, allowing Israeli security to trace his identity. He was ID’d as Yassir Blahai, who claimed that he was working on behalf of a cyber organization that commissioned the work.
