The Iranian students held fresh protests on Sunday, calling on country’s top officials to resign after Tehran admitted having accidentally downed a Ukrainian jet with 176 people — many of them students — early on Wednesday.
The protesters, as reported by Reuters, chanted “They are lying that our enemy is America, the real enemy is here!”
A video captured at a Tehran campus perfectly illustrated this sentiment, with dozens of students making an effort not to step on huge Israeli and American flags apparently painted on the ground.
President Trump took to Twitter to defend the demonstrators, sending a warning to Iranian leaders against harming them. “DO NOT KILL YOUR PROTESTERS,” Trump wrote. “Thousands have already been killed or imprisoned by you, and the World is watching. More importantly, the USA is watching.”
