Israel’s Health Ministry announced Monday evening that it is investigating a new suspected case of Ebola involving an individual who recently returned to the country from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The person arrived back in Israel several days ago and subsequently developed a fever along with other symptoms, prompting the individual to seek medical attention. Health officials stressed that Ebola has not been confirmed and that laboratory testing is now underway.
“The individual, who returned to Israel several days ago, sought medical treatment after developing a fever and additional symptoms. At this stage, this is only a suspected case, and the necessary tests are currently being conducted. The test results are expected to be received in the coming days. The individual will be treated under isolation conditions in accordance with the professional protocols established for dealing with high-risk infectious diseases and will be transferred to Ichilov Medical Center, which has been designated as one of the centers equipped to receive suspected cases of this kind,” the Ministry said.
While awaiting the test results, the patient will remain under strict isolation protocols intended for suspected cases involving highly dangerous infectious diseases.
The Health Ministry is also conducting an epidemiological investigation in accordance with its established procedures to determine who may have come into relevant contact with the individual and identify any additional measures that may be necessary.
