Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations claimed on Thursday that Iran controls more than 80,000 Shiite militants fighting on behalf of President Bashar Al-Assad in Syria.
Ambassador Danny Danon presented a satellite image of what he said was Iran’s “central induction and recruitment center in Syria,” located between the capital Damascus and the Lebanese border.
“We are presenting this image to the world so you can understand the depth of Iran’s involvement in Syria,” Danon told a meeting of the UN Security Council convened to discuss the Middle East peace process. “It is at this base … where these dangerous extremists are trained and then assigned their missions of terror throughout Syria and the region,” he said.
