Israel’s Ministerial Legislative Committee has voted down a bill submitted by MK Meir Porush of UTJ to give all families with four or more children a free dishwasher.

Although the bill would have significantly alleviated the pressure imposed on such families by Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s tax on disposable tableware, Social Equality and Pensioners Minister Meirav Cohen of Yesh Atid described it as a “joke.”

The bill would have cost the state $65 million.

    • It’s not bekovodik. It’s the same with throwing out the garbage. My chosson teacher told me that it’s beneath my dignity to bring the garbage bag outside.

  1. Yes, the dishwasher would be free, but what about the astronomical water bill?
I can see these free dishwashers taking up precious space in a teeny Israeli dirah, and collecting dust because the water bill is better spent on drinks and showers.

  2. Good. It was ridiculous on its face and Porush should have known that. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot by turning to the government to subsidize solutions for the problems it creates.
Besides, even if all families wanted a dishwasher, the government certainly wouldn’t pay for the kitchen modifications and installation.
And that’s before the water bill.
