It’s a sight that most know well: Newly married couples happily gain weight during the first few years of marriage, happy to be enjoying seudas, holidays, and dinners out together with their new family. Those who know Moshe Taretzky, however, see he appears to be getting skinnier. 30-year-old Moshe is suffering from a rare disease of the esophagus which makes it difficult for him to eat.

This has been a challenge for some time but in the past year it has become unbearable. The young man is now only able to ‘eat’ through a feeding tube. He has been reduced to an emaciated skeleton, slowly starving to death.

When the Taretzkys’ youngest son was born two months ago, Moshe was not even able to attend the bris. He was in the hospital fighting for his life.

Rav Yechiel Bamberger, chief rabbi of the Haifa community, has written an appeal to the public on behalf of the Taretzkys: Doctors want Moshe to have a procedure which would return his ability to eat, and allow him to return home to his wife and children. The family, however, is overwhelmed by the expenses and desperately needs help.

Wife Bracha Taretzky is home raising 4 young children on her own, with no way to cover their basic expenses, let alone the many bills which have come with her husband’s medical journey. It is a tremendously heavy burden for a 27-year-old woman to carry.

Readers who would like to help can do so via the family’s Chesed Fund page for a limited time.

  1. This brutal click bait has to stop. If you want to collect for a cause, find a way to do it without such headlines.

      • From Merriam Webster:

        d: very bad or unpleasant

        e: grossly ruthless or unfeeling
        a brutal slander

  2. I don’t know about click – bait or yellow journalism or PR styles, but to refer to yisurim min haShomayim as brutal is a far greater crime.

  3. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS HEADLINE!! ON THE CONTRARY, A MAN IS IN A STATE OF DIRECT SAKANAS NEFASHOS – HIS LIFE IS DIRECTLY IN GRAVE DANGER AND IS THUS IN HORRENDOUS SUFFERING!! THE HEADLINE ABOUT HIS CASE NEEDS TO BE VERY BRUTAL!!

  4. this man is sick with a sickness sent to him by the Ribono Shel Olam for reasons we will never know. klal yisroel is being called upon to assist his family but your article sounds like we are being accused of murder. brutal murderers are not known for helping their victims. such words are not conducive to giving tzedokah

  5. so who is brutally starving him to death? HKBH?
maybe you should rephrase the headline. Its a tragic situation and they need klal Yisroel’s help, but please rephrase it.

  6. If thet are willing to lie in the title they may be willing to use your money for something else. Honesty wins every time.
    I wouldn’t trust a camapaign like this.

    • It’s likely a “lost in translation” issue from “modern hebrew” to English.
They should still fix the headlines, but I would not let the headline detract from the seriousness of the cause.

  7. Lately matzav constantly features these bait click tzedakah campaigns. The titles are terrible, misleading, and people are turned off and do not want to contribute. Just state the cause as is.

  8. These horrendous headlines or a new trend or matzav and other Jewish websites. This isn’t just click bait, it’s pure sheker and tunes people off. Makes us wonder how honest the whole campaign is.

  9. Anti Reflux surgery for Gerd is serious, and always an absolute last resort, so if speaking about it, Moshe Taretzky’s acid reflux clearly is in horrendous shape.
