JOKE OFFER: Hamas Now Offering To Release Just 20 Hostages

An Israeli official disclosed this evening that Hamas has responded to the latest proposal from mediators, agreeing to release only 20 of its 133 hostages in exchange for a six-week ceasefire.

This falls significantly short of the number of hostages typically stipulated in previous proposals.

According to a Hamas source, there are concerns about the fate of many hostages, particularly women, men over 50, and those with severe medical conditions, with indications suggesting that they may no longer be alive or are held by other parties.

Hamas is not only seeking the release of its hostages but also demanding the liberation of terrorists serving lengthy prison terms, including convicted murderers, for each hostage handed over to Israel. Additionally, the organization insists on international assurances for a complete cessation of hostilities as part of the initial phase of any agreement.

The Hamas response suggests a lack of interest from Yahya Sinwar, the group’s leader, in the proposed deal. It is believed that Hamas anticipates increased international pressure on Israel and aims to prolong the conflict in hopes of expanding the battleground beyond Gaza, possibly to the Lebanese border.

In reaction to Hamas’ rejection of the deal, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller noted Israel’s significant concessions, emphasizing that Hamas now obstructs efforts for a Gaza ceasefire. Miller highlighted a substantial offer made by the US and its partners, which Hamas declined. Had Hamas accepted, it would have resulted in an immediate six-week ceasefire, benefiting the Palestinian population they claim to represent.
