Israeli police are investigating a possible kidnapping after a 10-year-old boy who disappeared from Petach Tikvah was found overnight in Bnei Brak together with a 20-year-old man from Yerushalayim.
Officers from the Petach Tikvah police station launched an extensive search after receiving a report that the child, a resident of the city, had been missing since the evening hours.
Police conducted searches in several areas and employed technological means in an effort to determine the boy’s whereabouts.
During the night, acting on information provided by Petach Tikvah police, officers from the Bnei Brak police station located the child in Bnei Brak. He was found together with a man approximately 20 years old who is a resident of Yerushalayim.
The two were taken to the Petach Tikvah police station, where investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the nature of the relationship between the child and the man.
Police are investigating, among other possibilities, whether the incident involved a kidnapping. Authorities have not yet released additional details explaining how the boy reached Bnei Brak or what occurred during the hours that he was missing.
Following questioning, the 20-year-old was arrested and taken into custody.
Police are expected to bring the suspect before a court Monday and request an extension of his detention as the investigation continues.
