Releasing oil from the reserves has been done before. The way it’s being done is stupid.
Generally speaking it is only done during times of national emergency
Not for things like improving Biden’s popularity after he closed down the the US natural sources of energy . Causing the same environmental issues but with other countries making the profit off the replacement oil instead of the US
Last week the nutty far right was calling the rise in gasoline prices an emergency and trashing Biden for not doing anything.
This week the nutty far right is saying it isn’t an emergency and trashing Biden for taking action.
Oh and Biden hasn’t closed US sources of oil. In fact he is getting grief from the equally nutty far left for actually increasing oil production on federal lands. Overall, US production May-August was up 8% over 2020. The problem is that the economy is booming thanks to other Biden policies and the oil industry isn’t expanding fast enough to keep up. There is also some evidence that it is trying to keep prices high by not increasing production as much as they could.
