Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies are targeting four members of parliament (MKs) in a pressure campaign designed to encourage them to bolt from the emerging government before it can be sworn in.
With only 61 seats cobbled together from a coalition of eight different parties, the mixed ideology “change bloc” cannot afford to lose even a single MK.
Yamina politicians Ayelet Shaked and Nir Orbach have been targeted in particular with demonstrations held outside their homes and calls from prominent rabbis designed to dissuade them, The Times of Israel reported.
Having failed to sway these MKs with offers of prestigious position, Netanyahu’s allies have switched to encouraging friends and colleagues of the targeted four to appeal to them on ideological grounds, Kan said.
