rainstormSouthern California is bracing for the biggest rainstorm of the season to hit the parched state. The storm is expected to peak today and could cause crippling mudslides.

Many residents have been encouraged to evacuate. Los Angeles and Ventura counties could see as much as three inches of rain, and the downpour could deliver higher amounts in the mountains.

The rain follows a weekend storm that triggered a rockslide in Malibu, forcing part of the Pacific Coast Highway to close. The back-to-back storms could have dangerous effects. “When you don’t give the soil a chance to dry out, we’re expecting it could be a very notable impact,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Kathy Hoxsie. Read more at the Los Angeles Times.
