Michael Oren, an American-born former Israeli ambassador and current member of the Kulanu party, is proposing to pay young non-religious Jews to move from the United States to Israel, Makor Rishon reported. Bringing 10,000 Jews annually to Israel would save them from assimilation and contribute to the Israeli economy, he said.

“If we brought a million Jews from the former Soviet Union, of course we’ll succeed in this too,” he said, adding that Netanyahu was “very interested” in the idea.

Similarly, Education Minister Naftali Bennett recently suggested targeting 60 million people worldwide for aliyah, such as descendants of Marranos who are halachically non-Jewish but have a historical affinity for Judaism and Israel.

Yad L’Achim appealed to the Chief Rabbis to fight the idea, warning that it would lead to mass conversions and had no basis in halachah. Furthermore, the initiative would attract Christian missionary cults.
