A new member has been added to the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah of Shas following recent appointment of four new members.
During a memorial gathering marking eleven months since the petirah of Chacham Shalom Cohen zt”l, the nosi of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah, Chacham Moshe Maya, announced that the rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Yekirei Yerushalayim, Chacham Yehuda Cohen, has joined as a member of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah.
At the gathering, Chacham Maya said, “Ever since I arrived in Yerushalayim, we have always known that the great gaon, Chacham Rav Yehuda Cohen, is a leader and first in everything related to kedusha, whether in yeshivos or in the administration of the education network and more. And now, we ask him to agree to come to the aid of Hashem with his strength and join as a member of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah. May it be the will of Hashem that we merit to magnify and glorify the Torah, and may our esteemed leaders, may their memory be a blessing, stand by us as we continue our endeavors.”
Chacham Yitzchak Yosef is expected to assume the role of nosi of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah following the conclusion of his tenure as Chief Rabbi of Israel and the postponement of the elections for the Chief Rabbinate.
