It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Mrs. Gitel Kahn a”h.

Mrs. Kahn was a renowned baalas chesed who devoted herself for years to assisting others, particularly in her involvement at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

Born in Czechoslovakia, Mrs. Kahn later immigrated to the United States, where she married and established a family, raising a son and a daughter.

During the early years of her marriage, she was instrumental in the founding, together with the Satmar Rebbetzin, of the legendary Satmar Bikur Cholim.

For decades, Mrs. Kahn served as a liaison at Mount Sinai Medical Center. There was nothing she wouldn’t do to help patients, using her medical knowledge, her clout, her persistence, and her ahavas Yisroel to push and pull and do whatever was necessary to ensure that patients received the best possible treatment and were cared for properly. Family members of patients knew that they could call Mrs. Kahn at any hour of the day or night and that they’d find a listening ear, a sensitive heart, and an insightful woman who would shower them with motherly love, treating all of Klal Yisroel as family.

Mrs. Kahn was a legendary baalas chesed, a superwoman who devoted her life to others.

She is survived by her children, R’ Nosson Kahn and Mrs. Arlene Weingarten.

The levayah and kevurah were held in Floral Park, NJ.

  1. I will never forget how Mrs. Kahan a”h ‘held our hands’ during our mother’s long stay in Mt. Sinai over 40 years ago. She always know what to say to make us fell calm even though we all knew that the situation was very serious. She would dispel the feeling of gloom and bring in a positive and upbeat atmosphere, just by walking into the room on a daily basis making us feel that she had all the time in the world to spend with us. We will never forget the chessed and the warmth she showed our family. Yehi Zichroh baruch.
