Earlier today, Matzav.com reported, based on a report from Duvi Honig and the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce (OJCC), on a shooting in the Catskills that was said to be directed at Jews.

Claims of the OJCC regarding the anti-Semitic shooting have been contradicted by the Monticello Police Department, who on Tuesday refuted claims that Jewish drivers were singled out for harm while traveling on Route 42.

In an official statement, the police department made it explicitly clear that the individuals involved, suspected to be associated with gangs, did not have Jews as their targets.

“This occurrence stands as a vivid illustration of the duty individuals assume when they opt to propagate unease and chaos within the Jewish community,” an askan told Matzav.com.

The comprehensive message from the police department is as follows:

“At 11:06 a.m. today, Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Monticello Police responded to the area of Forestburgh Road and Hamilton Road in the Village of Monticello for a 911 report of shots fired.

“A preliminary investigation shows that a male operating a vehicle on Forestburgh Road stopped and then exited his vehicle. After exiting his vehicle, he exchanged gunfire with other people who were along the shoulder of the northbound lane of Forestburgh Road. Multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene.

“This incident is believed to be gang -related in nature and was not targeted in any way towards members of the Jewish community, who have summer residences and colonies in that area.

“Monticello Police are being assisted in the investigation by the New York State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff Office. Also assisting in the investigation was a K-9 UNIT from the NYS DEC Police.”

  1. Wow. This is getting really exciting. Mamesh like a soap opera. I can’t wait to read the next chapter. He said she said you said I said they said. Sounds like some women I know. Just saying.

  2. Were the perpetrators caught and investigated? Are they god and know his intentions even without investigating? Is the mere fact that they shot someplace else any indication that they were not targeting jews? Perhaps it doesn’t show well on the crime statistics and they therefore have other motives to create facts?
