As Pesach steadily nears, the gargantuan efforts of Tomchei Shabbos to give more assistance to more people is well under way. The number of households accepting Tomchei Shabbos packages is climbing, and we can feel how badly they need a very significant amount of food to help them manage this Pesach season. Every few minutes, another family calls asking for assistance. The office of Tomchei Shabbos is so inundated with phone calls, they have added new staff members just to keep up with the increased demand!
But, what really underscores the major uptick in people crying out for help, is the sheer number of families who have been added. In merely thirty six hours, more than one hundred and fifty NEW families have been added to the Tomchei Shabbos list. The statistic is mind-boggling, and demands our response.
And just to give you a feeling of how BIG this Kimcha D’Pischa will be, consider these numbers. This year, Tomchei Shabbos will distribute 350,000 pounds of produce, 40,000 bottles of seltzer and juice, 96,000 yogurts and lebens, and 2,400,000 cups! The unprecedented breadth of this project has to be a call for all of us to step up and help out.
