On Friday, the police apprehended an individual of Palestinian Arab origin in the Chevron region who had been residing in Israel illegally. This person had assumed an Israeli identity and was working as an armed security guard in a shopping mall in Cholon.

The arrest came about following a complaint lodged by a resident of Nazareth who alerted the authorities to the fact that someone was in possession of a weapon license under his name. The complainant stated that he had received a notification by mail about the license, despite never having applied for one.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the license had been issued by a security company in Cholon. Police officers subsequently located the suspect, who had been posing as the complainant while employed as a security guard in a Cholon mall. During the arrest, a firearm and ammunition, provided to the suspect by the security company for his work, were found in his possession.

Initially, the suspect had identified himself using falsified documents containing the details of the complainant. However, when his information was cross-referenced with police records, it became evident that he was an illegal immigrant and a resident of the Palestinian Authority-assigned territories.

The suspect had a prior criminal record, including a recent conviction for impersonation, which resulted in a prison sentence and a suspended sentence.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to purchasing a counterfeit identity card that he used to impersonate the complainant.

The suspect, a 36-year-old individual residing in the city of Dura, located southwest of Chevron, was arrested and taken to a police station for questioning. Subsequently, he was presented before a judge who extended his detention until June 5.
