Updated: President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort was released from prison early this morning because of the coronavirus crisis, his lawyer has confirmed.
Manafort, 71, was picked up by his wife and another relative from FCI Loretto, the low-security federal prison in Pennsylvania, Kevin Downing confirmed to CBS News.
The longtime GOP strategist had not been due to leave prison until November 2024 but will now serve the rest of his 7½-year sentence in home confinement, according to the reports.
His legal team fought for the release, citing his age and pre-existing health conditions, including a recent “cardiac event.” Read more at the NY Post.
