Pen Returned After 74 years

A pen confiscated by Nazis from a Hungarian Jew was returned to his son 74 years later thanks to Germany’s International Tracing Service (ITS) and Times of Israel journalist Renee Ghert-Zand.

When teenager Istvan Rokza arrived at the Neuengamme concentration camp in Germany in 1944, Nazis confiscated his money and a black fountain pen. Rokza died in 1996 after moving to Israel.

This month, 22 years after Rokza’s death, the pen was returned to his family in Israel.
