It is with great sadness that we report the passing of R’ Peretz Yehudah Sontag z”l of Monsey, NY.
Ten days ago, on March 14, Peretz went missing after having last been seen driving from his home in a black Kia Optima. Authorities pinged Peretz’s cell phone last Friday afternoon, detecting a signal from the device at a cell tower in the Stony Point area, which includes Harriman State Park. Since that time, they were unable to make any contact with the phone.
Ramapo police coordinated efforts with New York State Park Police officers, state troopers and the Stony Point Police Department as well as numerous volunteer agencies working toward Peretz’s safe return.
Friends and family members held a press conference on Wednesday, seeking input from the public. The Sontag family offered a $30,000 reward for information leading to his safe return.
Yosef Margareten, a Chaverim coordinator, said since the disappearance, some 500 people have gone “block by block, street by street” to search for Sontag and his car.
Chaveirim, Hatzolah, Shomrim and numerous other volunteers displayed remarkable care and devotion as they devoted their time and resources to find Peretz. He was discovered unresponsive this afternoon.
The 50-year-old father of seven was well known in the frum community for his chesed and service toward charitable causes. News of his petirah has sent shockwaves across the frum world.
All are asked to learn l’illui nishmas R’ Peretz Yehudah ben Mendel.

I cry with tears as I write this upon the loss of another yid & a father of 9 all mourning their loss:
Why did this have to happen? why didnt we start a zman for teshuva when he got lost & start saying tehillim for him? will this be that last tragedy to fall upon klal yisroel? how much more tzaros do we need CV in order for us to face Hashem & admit that we all need to start doing teshuva? TEARS are rolling down my cheek as I write this.
the situation will only get worse RL if Haashem sees that a)bad economy b)gedolim being niftar every week RL C)Israeli draft etc cant wake us up & bring us to teshuva as a nation .
May his Neshama have an aliya & may his family be menachem among klal yisroel
May the tzaros of Klal Yisroel come to an end.
Umacha hashem deemah maal col pawnim.

BDE…terrible news…
Dear safety, What does this have to do with Teshuva? Any time someone is niftar you seem to invoke the teshiva theme.
Peretz, z”l you will be missed.
The only lesson to be learned is when a person reports feeling desperation, take it seriously. Azov Ta’azov Imo still applies nowadays. If someone gives a cry out for help, he must be helped.
Nebach! BD”E
Nebach and may the family be comforted.
Bd”e, even if i dont know Peretz or his family, i mourn with you this tragedy. my thoughts and tefillos are with the bereaved family. May you only know simchas, mazal and brocha. May Hashem fulfil for you every good brocho coming your way.

#21: The purpose of a hesped is encourage us the living to do teshuva.
We do not have the right to say that CH”V things will get worse. Only Hashem knows what these things have happened. Let’s pray that Hashem will end this Golus and there will be no more Tzoros. Moshiach Now!!!
