Yesterday, Sunday, May 1, Kollel Cheishek Shlomo, led by its roshei kollel, Rav Avrohom Yeshaya Appel and Rav Asher Steinmetz, celebrated the chanukas habayis of its new building at 506 New Egypt Road in Lakewood, NJ.

Kollel Cheishek Shlomo is unique in the world of kollelim. For starters, to join the kollel for first seder or second seder, one must undergo a rigorous farher on 250 blatt Gemara. First seder runs from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Second seder runs from 2 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. and covers four blatt a week with bechinos. Yungeleit are paid $1,650 a month for twelve months.

The kollel, led by the visionary Rabbi Appel, offers the yungeleit many amenities and services, including breakfast, lunch, a place to rest during bein hasedorim, and subsidized, extended-hours child care at the kollel’s daycare center.

In addition to the morning and afternoon sedorim, the kollel just started a morning kollel from 5 to 7 a.m. and an afternoon kollel from 8 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. Participants must complete at least 50 blatt a month, and they get paid $350 a month for each of those sedorim.

Yesterday’s event featured divrei brocha from Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva of Philadelphia, and Rav Yitzchok Sorotzkin, rosh yeshiva of Mesivta of Lakewood, and a hachnosas Sefer Torah.
