POOR EXCUSE: Blinken: We Didn’t Veto UN Res. Because It Paired Ceasefire With Hostage Release

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken articulated the Biden Administration’s rationale behind abstaining from, rather than vetoing, a UN Security Council resolution urging a ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan on Monday.

Blinken emphasized, “Today, the United States abstained on UN Security Council resolution 2728. This decision, following the veto of our comprehensive draft resolution by Russia and China, underscores the U.S. stance that any ceasefire must be part of an agreement to release hostages in Gaza. Although we have reservations about certain aspects of this resolution, the modifications made by its sponsors in recent days align with our fundamental position that any ceasefire initiative must be coupled with provisions regarding the release of hostages. Moreover, this resolution explicitly acknowledges the ongoing, intensive negotiations led by Egypt, Israel, Qatar, and the United States to secure such a release within the framework of a ceasefire. This would not only facilitate the delivery of vital humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians but also pave the way for more enduring solutions.”

“However, due to the absence of crucial language we deem necessary, particularly a condemnation of Hamas, we could not endorse the resolution. It is perplexing that Hamas remains uncondemned, especially in the wake of recent terrorist acts witnessed by the world,” Blinken elaborated.

“We stress the urgency of expediting and sustaining humanitarian aid delivery through all available channels – land, sea, and air. We are engaged in ongoing discussions with our allies to chart a course toward establishing a Palestinian state with credible security assurances for Israel, fostering lasting peace and stability.

“As evidenced by my recent visits to the region, we have been closely coordinating with our Arab allies to achieve these critical objectives. Additionally, we are collaborating with Israel to prevent a recurrence of events like those of October 7, meet its security requirements, and enhance its integration into a safer and more prosperous neighborhood. There is consensus on these priorities – a ceasefire, hostage release, increased humanitarian aid, and a clearly defined path forward. Importantly, there is growing alignment on the necessary measures to realize these goals. We will continue to work closely with our regional partners to advance these shared objectives.”

  1. The abstention is pretty much the exact same thing as a “Yes” vote. For all practical purposes, the U.S. has joined the modern day “Axis of Evil” in demanding that Hamas be allowed to keep the kidnapped hostages and repeat the Oct. 7th atrocity at will, while Israel must unconditionally surrender.
This sell-out to the forces of absolute evil, just to win over “The Squad” and their like-minded voters in Michigan, is sickening. If a book “Profiles in Cowardice” were ever written, this story deserves a chapter. This alone is enough of a reason to vote for Trump, and I will B”N do so.

  2. That’s what Obama meant when he told Netanyahu, “we’ve got your back!” Yeah, with a dagger in our hand!
This is an administration of רשעים.

  3. This entire picture defies morality and truth. The world message from the UN needs to be simple. Full release of all hostages with zero conditions or concessions. The alternative is that the rest of the international community will join Israel in the effort to eradicate Hamas and its supporters. First hostages home, then we discuss cease fire. What we are observinbg inbstead of this is a sincere effort on the part of the UN, the Biden administration, and the other rogue nations to support Hamas and its terror, and to destroy Israel. Yes, Biden is an enemy of Israel, and he is proving it in too many ways.

  4. How ’bout condemning Hamas for breaking the ceasefire on October 7? Oh, they forgot. Goes to show how well they keep their traditions in violating ceasefires and peace treaties at will. They have a long history of doing just that.
