Clinton Correctional FacilityThe prison worker who allegedly conspired to help convicted killers Richard Matt and David Sweat escape had previously been investigated for having a relationship with Sweat, District Attorney Andrew Wylie told NBC News.

It has been alleged that Joyce Mitchell also had a relationship with the other escapee.

An unnamed law-enforcement source who spoke to the Albany Times Union also claimed that Mitchell discussed killing her husband with them.

Mitchell, who has not been charged with conspiracy, is then alleged to have planned to take the men to a cabin in Vermont. Her husband, Lyle, works at the prison as a maintenance worker.

Though authorities have not confirmed a murder plot, they have said her husband was a factor in her pulling out of the plan.

“She did indicate one of the reasons why she didn’t show up was because she [liked] her husband and she didn’t want to do this to him,” said Wylie. Read more at NBC News.
