It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Akiva Yosef Steinmetz z”l. Reb Akiva Yosef was a longtime beloved member of Kollel Avreichim of Toronto, an outstanding talmid chochom and masmid, one of the rabbonim who oversaw the Toronto Eruv.
Rav Akiva Yosef spent his days immersed in limud haTorah, wishing for nothing else in this world. He was a gadol in so many ways, a humble talmid chochom who was a mushlam in Torah and middos.
He was a son of Rabbi and Mrs. Shlomo Yechiel Michel Steinmetz of Boro Park.
He is survived by his parents and by his wife and children.
The levayah was held in Toronto this morning. A second levayah will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Avenue, off of East 7th Street, in Lakewood, NJ. The aron will then be flow to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah there. Yehi zichro boruch.
