It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Shaiall Zachariash zt”l.

Rav Zachariash was the rov of the Shomrey Emunah shul in Michigan.

Shomrey Emunah was established in Detroit in the 1950 and moved to Southfield in 1972 under the leadership of Rav Zachariash.

Rav Zachariash, with his affability and unique personality, touched an untold number of lives during his tenure as rov of Shomrey Emunah, drawing his congregants to greater levels of avodas Hashem.

Originally from Los Angeles, Rav Zachariash learned at Yeshiva Torah Vodaas and later at Yeshiva Ner Yisroel in Baltimore. He moved to Michigan from Toledo, where he was a rov until 1964. He relocated to the Detroit area to teach at Yeshiva Bais Yehudah and two years leader took the helm of Shomrey Emunah. He served as the head of the Vaad Hrabbonim of Detroit and was an influential manhig for decades, with the dedicated support of his wife, Rebbetzin Bracha Zachariash a”h, who passed away in January 2018.

Rabbi Zachariash is survived by his four children: Rabbi and Mrs. Avrohom and Rivka Schwartz, Rabbi and Mrs. Eli and Orah Jundef, Rabbi and Mrs. Eli and Avigail Teichman, and Rabbi and Mrs. Avrohom Boruch and Chana Zachariash.

  1. *He was the Rov of Shomrei Emunah in Southfield.
His son-in-law Rabbi E.M. Jundef is the Rov of Ohel Moed-Shomrey Emunah shul in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

  2. BD”E – The information about the shul is incorrect. His shul is Shomrey Emunah in Southfield. The shul in West Bloomfield is his son-in-law’s Rabbi Jundof. The current rov of shul in Soutfield now is Rabbi Z’s grandson, also Jundof.

Rabbi Zachariash was my 4th grade rebbi, and also my mohel. He was very wonderful and beloved.

  3. Harav Zachariash zt”l was a great man. A true Rav who looked past the external and saw the pnimius of a person, he encouraged his mispallelim to be bigger and better and always inspired growth. He was a visionary who saw the potential of the West Bloomfield community and built a beautiful shul there and many Yidden are frum today because of his vision. He was a Talmid Chochom of note – a Mohel who brought hundreds of people into the fold – and produced a beautiful mishpachah. There’s too much to say about him and not enough time to say it.
