It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rabbi Velvel (Yitzchok Zev) Finkelstein zt”l.

Reb Velvel was a son of Rabbi Yaakov and Shaindy Finkelstein zt”l.

Reb Velvel was the nosi of Yeshiva Gedolah of Bayonne, an outstanding baal chesed who assisted yechidim and the klal continuously. He was a longtime resident of the Kensington neighborhood in Brooklyn.

The kindest person you could meet, with a heart of gold, Reb Velvel was a one-of-a-kind individual.

His father, Reb Yankel, was a noted tomeich Torah and baal chesed, whose values and ideals were undiluted by the American culture, and Reb Velvel was very much the same, a staunch and unwavering oveid Hashem throughout his life, clinging to the hashkafos with which he was raised and the lessons he learned from his illustrious rabbeim.

Reb Velvel always lived with pashtus, carrying himself with simplicity and eschewing the materialism rampant in the outside culture.

Reb Velvel battled various illnesses and medical ailments over the last period with tremendous gevurah.

He is survived by his wife and his children and grandchildren, as well as his siblings, R’ Reuven Finkelstein, R’ Nachum Finkelstein, R’ Shmuel Akiva Finkelstein, R’ Avrohom Finkelstein, Mrs. Zlaty Friedman and Rebbetzin Liba Magid.

The levayah will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Yeshiva Gedolah of Bayonne, located at 747 Avenue C in Bayonne, NJ. The aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for a levayah and kevurah in Bet Shemesh, leaving on El Al from Newark Liberty International Airport at 5:30 p.m.

Yehi zichro boruch.
