It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Yosef Yisroel Grossman zt”l. He was 72.
Rabbi Grossman, a noted talmid chochom and longtime veteran of the kashrus field, served as a Senior Rabbinic Coordinator at the Orthodox Union and was the director of the OU’s Kosher Education Department. In that role, Rabbi Grossman was responsible for numerous kashrus educational events, such as the popular ASK OU programs, as well as publications, spreading awareness and providing guidance to tens of thousands of people over the years.
Rabbi Grossman served as the editor of Daf Hakashrus, a top-level comprehensive kashrus publication produced by the OU, containing fascinating p’sakim, teshuvos and detailed analysis of kashrus-related matters from halachic and practical standpoints. The publication has been hailed by kashrus experts and laymen alike.
For years, Rabbi Grossman organized the Siyum Hatorah in Monsey, spearheading that initiative which brought about thousands of hours of limud haTorah.
For decades, Rabbi Grossman resided in Monsey, NY. He subsequently moved to Lakewood, NJ, living near his children.
Rabbi Grossman is survived by his wife, their children and grandchildren. His children are Mrs. Shani Hunger, Mrs. Devorah Pruzansky, Mrs. Kayla Landau, Mrs. Nechama Friedman, Mrs. Chava Bracha Israel, Rabbi Dovid Grossman and Rabbi Raphael Grossman.
The levayah will be held at 10 a.m. at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Street in Lakewood NJ. The aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah on Har Hamenuchos in Yerushalayim.

א שיינע איד, א טייערע איד, א זיסע מענטש
I got to know him a bit through OU events. I had known his brother, R. Dovid Grossman ז”ל of Borough Park, similarly a ישראל אשר בך אתפאר כדברי חז”ל, א טייערע מענטש, who was niftar quite young, years ago, suddenly, shockingly. After that, I had some נחמה when I met R. Yosef z”l. And now he has gone to join his brother evidently.
