It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rabbi Yosef Herz zt”l. He was 85.
Rabbi Herz passed away at the Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in Yerushalayim.
Rabbi Herz was one of the veteran talmidei chachomim of the Stamford Hill neighborhood of London.
Rabbi Herz was a son of Rav Tzvi Aryeh Herz, talmid vosik of Rav Moshe Yehuda Schneider, Rosh Yeshivas Toras Emes, and a close talmid of the Ponovezher roshei yeshiva and Rav Chatzkel Levenstein.
He married his wife, daughter of the late Rav Yosef Toledano, and continued to live in London, where he learned at Kollel Toras Emes at Schneider’s Yeshiva in London.
He gave a shiur for twenty years at Yeshiva Etz Chaim in London, and gave shiurim klaliyim to yungeleit at Schneiders Yeshiva.
He was a great yorei Shomayim and was immersed in Torah all his life.
He authored many seforim, most notably his Sefer Masas Yosef on Shas and Shulchan Aruch, receiving the haskamah of gedolim including Rav Chaim Kanievsky.
When Covid broke out, he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and established his place of residence in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of Yerushalayim. He continued his diligence in Torah learning and publishing his many writings.
In recent days, he was hospitalized due to an infection in his body.
He leaves behind his wife, his children and grandchildren following in his ways.
The levayah was held on Wednesday at the Ponovezh Yeshiva plaza in Bnei Brak and the aron was then brought to the Ponovezher Bais Hachaim for kevurah there.
The family is sitting shivah at 40 Rav Toledano Street in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of Yerushalayim.
