In a rare event, this past Sunday, Rav Menachem Genack, head of the Kashrus Division of the Orthodox Union, paid a visit to Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar in the village of Kiryas Yoel. Rav Genack was joined by Rav Chaim Loike, a Rabbinic Coordinator at OU Kosher with special expertise in avian kashrus, Rabbi Nosson Goldberg, OU Kosher Rabbinic Coordinator for meat, and several other individuals.
During the visit, Rav Genack and the group from the OU discussed and reviewed the Kiryas Yoel shechitah, which is under the supervision of Satmar as well as the OU. The group, guided by Kiryas Yoel askanim, then visited the home of Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar. There, the kashrus discussions continued. One of the issues discussed was mesorah of ofos and the kashrus status of the Muscovy duck, which has made headlines recently. Rabbi Goldberg shared his expertise on the matter.
The visit lasted over five hours and was seen as productive and enlightening to all parties involved.

Now hes a Satmar’er chosid.
(Who gave who the pidyon? – just asking..)
First:
I was at the meeting and it was amazing.
Rabbi Geneck is a rabbi in engelwood nj.
The Katz brothers attended this event, & they informed me that it was a big Hisoirerus to see the chacidishe velt so biachdus with the Modern Orthodox Yidden from the OU.
I attended the meeting and the visit to the plant. The rebbe was very impressed with the OU delegation.
FYI The Satmar rebbe is more Lubavitch than Rabbi Genack is satmar, however rabbi Genack is a very chashuve yid and a big talmid chacham.
This is amazing I hope this keeps up
Modern Orthodox Yidden from the OU-which MO yidden were there?
tmk thanks for clarifying. I always thought Rav Genack was a shtickle Satmar chosid, even though he wears a “down” Borsalino hat.
The OU is no longer MO. It is way to the right bordering on yeshivish
OU continues to share its knowledge and expertise with all of klal yisrael
well The OU still has shuls and Rabbonim affiliated with it that esposue questioinable beliefs like having microphones on Shabbos. In addition many of there shuls say a Teffilah for the Medina with the words basically that the Medina is the begining of the Geulah. It is still very much an MO organization.
In this day and age, microphones on Shabbos are almost as ok as some Eiruvim in certain cities.
The Zomet org. in Eretz Yisroel (not to be confused with the Medina) has created lots of electronics that can be used on Shabbos (according to some poskim). One example is those red telephones used in order to reach hatzalah on shabbos which you see in some shuls.
So I don’t say that you use a mic on shabbos, but don’t bad-mouth someone who decided for some reason to use it.
Some use mikes on Shabbos; some married women don’t cover their hair; some go to mixed swimming pools and beaches; some eat dairy in treif restaurants.
Did I miss any heterim?
“The OU still has shuls and Rabbonim affiliated with it that esposue questioinable beliefs like having microphones on Shabbos”
Using a microphone is not a belief, it is a practice.
