Rav Shlomo Yehonasan Yehuda Fischer zt”l

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Shlomo Yehonasan Yehuda Fischer zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Itri in Eretz Yisroel. He was 90 years old and passed away at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Yerushalayim.

Rav Shlomo was a son of Rav Aharon Fischer, who was from the Perushim in Yerushalayim, and Rebbetzin Devorah. His grandfather, Rav Shlomo Fischer, after whom he was named, was a rov in Kalsburg.

At a young age, his father passed away. Rav Yechiel Matisyahu Davis raised him and his brothers.

As a bochur, he learned at Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim under Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel.

He married his wife, Rebbetzin Leah, a daughter of Rav Eliezer Dovid Brand. She was the menaheles of Bais Brocha in Yerushalayim.

Rav Shlomo spent his time immersed in limud haTorah. He served as a dayan on the Yerushalayim bais din and as a R”M at Yeshiva Liflagos Reuven and later became rosh yeshiva at Yeshivas Itri with Rav Mordechai Elefant.

During the week he would remain at the yeshiva and would only go home for Friday and Sahbbos. For most of the day and night, he would learn with talmidim and other who came especially to learn Torah with him.

Rav Shlomo was a world-class talmid chochom, a boki, and a masmid.

“He was like a father to the talmidim,” said a talmid.

In his lifetime, he authored the seforim Beis Yishai and assisted in the publishing of Rav Elchonon Wasserman’s Kovetz Biurim and Kovetz Shmuos and other seforim.

One of his last public appearances was at the levayah of his brother-in-law, Rav Leib Mintzberg, head of Bais Medrash Hamsmidim, who passed away three years ago.

He leaves behind doros of bnei and bnos Torah.

His brother was the famed Dayan Yisroel Yaakov Fischer.

The levayah was held at Yeshivats Itari in Yerushalayim and then passed Yeshivas Mir in the Bais Yisroel neighborhood en route to Har Hazeisim for kevurah there.
