Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt”l, Rosh Yeshivas Shaar Hashomayim

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Hamekubalim Shaar Hashomayim. He was 85.

Rav Shlomo Zalman was born in Yerushalayim, a son of Rav Eliezer Auerbach, rosh yeshivas Shaar Hashomayim, the second son of Rav Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach, rosh yeshivas Shaar Hashomayim, who was a son of Rav Avraham Dov Auerbach. His mother, Rebbetzin Rivka, nee Eisen, was a brother of Rav Shalom Eisen, dayan with the Eidah Hachareidis.

His father, Rav Eliezer, passed away the same year as his mother, and his uncle, the posek hador, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, raised the orphans in his home and led his nephew, Rav Shlomo Zalman, to his chupah, as his father died between the engagement and the wedding.

Rav Shlomo Zalman learned at the Etz Chaim Yeshiva in Yerushalayim and at the Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, where he learned with his cousins, Rav Avraham Dov Auerbach, rov of Tiveria, and Rav Azriel Auerbach, rov of Bayit Vegan.

He married his wife, a daughter of Rav Dovid Zvi Gerlitz.

Over the years, he continued in his father’s footsteps to lead the Yeshivas Hamekubalim Shaar Hashomayim, and over the years he was appointed to serve as the menahel of Mosdos Kiryas Hayeled.

He had a special relationship with his uncle, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, and also with his cousin, Rav Shmuel Auerbach.

For many years, he served as the chazzan at the Shomeri Hachomos shul in the Ramot Dalet neighborhood in Yerushalayim.

He leaves behind a family, sons and daughters, following in his ways.

The levayah was held this morning from his home at 17 Rechov Mintz in the Ramot Dalet neighborhood in Yerushalayim, with kevurah on Har Hamenuchos.
