Rav Moshe Sternbuch, raavad of the Eidah Hachareidis, decried a phenomenon that has become popular with bochurim walking around on Purim in secular clothes and other such attire.

“There are yeshiva boys who dress on Purim like seculars on the street. It is muktzah machmas mius (disgusting) to look at them. I can’t look at them like that. They look like gentiles or secular people; they aren’t recognizable as yeshiva boys.”

“You need to know that clothing affects a person’s nefesh,” he added.

“The fact that there are those who dress in these clothes is a big concern, and one must be very careful not to dress in clothes like that…

“On the other hand, it is a true Kiddush Hashem if you see a yeshiva boy who dresses and behaves like a ben Torah on Purim… As Chazal say: אשרי אביו שלמדו תורה ואשרי רבו שלמדו תורה.”
