Representative James Comer revealed on Tuesday that President Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, was designated as the recipient address for two bank transfers, constituting payments to his son, Hunter, originating from Chinese individuals. One of these Chinese individuals, Jonathan Li, had developed a business association with Hunter Biden during Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president, as confirmed by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
This disclosure emerged just two days before the inaugural hearing for the House’s prospective impeachment inquiry into President Biden. The inquiry revolves around allegations of the elder Biden’s involvement in a range of dubious business dealings aimed at benefiting Hunter, Joe, and other members of the Biden family.
According to the committee, it obtained bank wire transcripts through a subpoena, revealing that Hunter Biden received a $10,000 transfer from Chinese national Wang Xin on July 26, 2019, and a $250,000 transfer from Li and Tang Ling on August 2, 2019. Both transfers were traced back to Beijing, with Joe Biden’s Wilmington residence being listed as the beneficiary address for both transactions.
Rep. Comer expressed his concerns in a press release, stating, “Bank records don’t lie but President Joe Biden does. In 2020, Joe Biden told Americans that his family never received money from China. We’ve already proved that to be a lie earlier this year, and now we know that two wires originating from Beijing listed Joe Biden’s Wilmington home as the beneficiary address when he was running for president of the United States.” Comer also highlighted Joe Biden’s prior interactions with Jonathan Li, including a recommendation letter written for Li’s children during his vice presidency.
Jonathan Li serves as the CEO of BHR Partners, an equity investment firm. The committee alleges that Joe Biden, during his tenure as vice president under Barack Obama, accompanied his son on Air Force 2 to China to meet with Li. Subsequently, BHR’s business license was granted, and Hunter Biden secured a position on its board.
The committee contends that on October 13, 2019, Hunter Biden’s attorney, George Mesires, asserted that his client had not received any funds from BHR and had not disclosed any payments from Li. Furthermore, on October 22, 2020, Joe Biden declared, “My son has not made money, in terms of thing about, what are you talking about? China. The only guy who made money in China is [President Donald Trump].”
Representative Comer concluded by asserting that Joe Biden’s alleged misuse of public office for his family’s financial benefit poses a threat to national security. He called for accountability and transparency regarding the funds received from Beijing, stressing that the Oversight Committee, along with the Judiciary and Ways and Means committees, would continue to scrutinize the evidence and financial transactions.
