House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) denied Hunter Biden’s request to testify publicly, saying that he wants the president’s son to sit down for a closed-door deposition on Dec. 13. He took to X, formerly Twitter, complaining that Hunter Biden was “trying to play by his own rules instead of following the rules required of everyone else.”

“We expect full cooperation with our subpoena for a deposition but also agree that Hunter Biden should have opportunity to testify in a public setting at a future date,” the statement said.

Earlier this month, Comer subpoenaed Hunter Biden and others in his ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden and the family’s business activities. But in a Tuesday morning letter, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, alleged that Comer intentionally leaked information from interviews with other witnesses. “We have seen you use closed-door sessions to manipulate, even distort the facts and misinform the public,” Lowell wrote. “We therefore propose opening the door.”

In a Tuesday afternoon statement, House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) criticized his Republican colleagues and claimed they were scared to hold a public hearing since it would reveal that they do not have sufficient evidence to suggest that the president committed any wrongdoing.
