Russia Poses A Bigger Threat Than ISIS, Warns U.K. Military Chief

Russia poses a greater threat to U.K. security than the militant groups Islamic State and al Qaeda, warned the new commander of the British Army.

General Mark Carleton-Smith was appointed chief of the U.K’s general staff in June—and in his first interview since the appointment had a stark warning about Russia’s military capacity.

“Russia today indisputably represents a far greater threat to our national security than Islamic extremist threats such as al-Qaeda and Isil,” he told British daily The Daily Telegraph, using one of the acronyms for the militant group known as the Islamic State.

“Russia has demonstrated that it is prepared to use military force to secure and expand its own national interests.”

  1. “Russia has demonstrated that it is prepared to use military force to secure and expand its own national interests.” Is that something that applies to neither the U.S. nor Obama – nor the UK? Maybe the point is that – get this – one can reason with Putin (unlike ISIS) to show him just how to obtain national interests without war. Unlike the Democrats (and their allocates in the UK) who seem bent on provoking them. I suppose seeing how the Democrats use bullying tactics against Republicans who are simply trying yo have a quiet family meal out, one can expect no other response from the Democrats (and their allocates in the UK) when it comes to Russia. I mean – wasn’t it Mitt Romney in the 2012 elections who warned about Russia and President Obama who literally ridiculed him on world-wide media? Why didn’t the UK speak up THEN?Now one may see ho wit is “too late” for that so they want to start a confrontation and blame Trump.
