i24 News – After a leaked US Supreme Court draft majority opinion revealed that the body’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision would be overturned, Israel’s Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz pledged to make abortion access easier in his country.

“The right of a woman to her body is hers and hers alone,” Horowitz said on Tuesday, according to The Jerusalem Post.

“If the [US] Supreme Court sends the leadership of the free world back 50 years, it would be a fatal blow to human rights,” the minister warned.

He added that Israel is also taking steps to address its own limits on women’s access to the procedure.

“Meanwhile, we are moving forward and updating the antiquated procedures in the Health Ministry that were intended to prevent women from choosing. We are putting the decision in their hands,” Horowitz said.

In Israel, abortion access is restricted, and in order to receive the procedure, women must appear in front of a committee to obtain approval.

Additionally, those seeking the procedure must meet certain criteria across a number of categories – which look at a woman’s age, marital status, the health of the mother, and the health of the fetus – in order to receive permission for an abortion.

  1. I hate Israel. Thank God I don’t live there. Such a wicked evil nation. They want to outdo the goyim. Sedom.

Unless it’s for a Covid shot, of course. Same for men, obviously.

    • Judaism isn’t about rights. It is about responsibilities and obligations. It doesn’t have a “right” to an abortion or even to do anything else to your body and there is actually extensive halachic literature on what is and is not permissible to do to ones body.

That said, Judaism is not as restrictive regarding abortion as the Catholics or evangelical Christians who want to force their morality on us with these abortion bans.

  3. This USA ruling I hope to come can make us sovereign again over their lust and crowning bungled marriage plans.

  4. I think that abortions should be done the way its done in Israel. before a panel of doctors/judges/ethics committee to review and approve or deny, it became a game. young women can do whatever they want and then kill the baby.

  5. To Mr. Ben acher Ben:
You hate Israel. Very nice. I could understand if you hated this particular rasha, this abominable rotzayach. But to hate all Israel? And to be happy you don’t live there? Your problem is you only look at the negative side. There are tens and tens of thousands of families of very erlicher Yidden, of big Bnei Torah and Chasidsher families who live in scores of big, beautiful neighborhoods, Kehilos Kidoshos whose children are raised Al Taharas HaKodesh. Have you ever been to the many Chareidisher neighborhoods in Yerushalim? Have you ever been in Bnei Brak? Besides Beitar, Kiryat Sefer, Beit Shemesh, entire Chareidisher towns growing bigger and bigger. And this is besides the Chareidisher neighborhoods in Tzfas, Tiveriah, Ashdod, and newer ones in Elad, Arad, Petach Tikvah, Chatzor, Afula, etc, etc, Whoever wants to be an erlicher Yid in Eretz Yisrael can be. Nobody is stopping them. Nobody is forcing anyone to have an abortion. Of course, there are challenges, for EY is Nikne B;Yisurin as Chazal told us. But if one listens to the directives of the Gedolei Yisrael who tell us how to deal with them, they can lead full Torah lives and not be harmed by anyone.

  6. Makes sense from the Health Minister who had no problem killing innocent people with their vax, why not babies too or even before they’re born?
