Sky News has issued a formal on-air apology in response to an interview with Likud MK Danny Danon. The conversation centered around Danon’s expressed support for the voluntary relocation of Gazans amid the ongoing conflict, as outlined in a co-authored Wall Street Journal opinion piece from November. In the interview, the host, Belle Donati, drew a controversial parallel, likening Danon’s comments to the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.

Danon, clarifying his stance, emphasized that he was advocating for “voluntary emigration” and defended the right of anyone worldwide to move to another country if they so desired. Donati, seemingly dismissive and impatient, countered by suggesting a comparison to the “voluntary relocation of many Jewish people during the Holocaust.”

In response to Donati’s assertion, Danon strongly objected, labeling it as a “shameful and antisemitic equation” and expressing his refusal to allow such a comparison. The host attempted to shift the discussion, but Danon insisted on addressing the matter further, emphasizing the inappropriate nature of the analogy.

Sky News later issued an apology, acknowledging the impropriety of the comparison and expressing regret to Mr. Danon personally. Another anchor conveyed the network’s apology, distancing Sky News from Donati’s comments and characterizing them as offensive.

Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu had previously stated that Israel had no intention of permanently occupying Gaza or displacing its civilian population. Danon, however, contradicted this by stating that the prime minister had expressed support for the idea of voluntary migration during a recent meeting. This revelation seemed to confirm an earlier report on Netanyahu’s efforts to facilitate such migration.

After the interview, Danon took to X, referring to Donati as an “insolent interviewer” and expressed his desire for a personal apology from her. Despite having seen the Sky News apology, he insisted on seeking a direct apology from Donati.
