South Carolina Senate Passes ‘Fetal Heartbeat’ Bill Outlawing Most Abortions

The South Carolina Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would outlaw almost all abortions in the state, overcoming years of hurdles thanks to Republicans winning new seats in last year’s elections.

The 30-13 vote is likely the final hurdle for the bill. It has passed the House easily in previous years and Gov. Henry McMaster has repeatedly said he will sign it as soon as he can.

The South Carolina Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act requires doctors to use an ultrasound to try to detect a fetal heartbeat if they think pregnant women are at least eight weeks along. If they find a heartbeat, and the pregnancy is not the result of rape or incest, they can’t perform the abortion unless the mother’s life is in danger.

  1. Great News! I hope more states follow in this way. Abortion is tantamount to murder and the Orthodox community should speak out more forcefully against it.

  2. Thank you Borei Olam! This is clearly a case of Marbeh Kvod Shomayim. May HKB”H bless and protect the citizens of the Bible Belt State South Carolina. Despite all the evil and wickedness of the North East and the West coast, we see positive God fearing moral Gentiles in the rest of the Country. This is very uplifting and renews my spirit, that despite the Sodomites that control Washington and all its houses of ill repute, the heartland of this Country is still good and wants good. Despite the evil wicked media attempting to beat us down into submission of all evils and toaiva, we can and MUST resist! Our survival in this medina shel chesed is relying on our support of God fearing laws. Despite what our misguided askanim tell us, we must continue to vote locally on the local level for candidates that support OUR views and beliefs, the Torah’s views!
