A large crowd of pro-Hamas, pro-terrorism demonstrators advocating for the “Palestinian cause” gathered in Midtown on Monday, carrying a symbolic blood-red scene and chanting “[X-mas] is canceled here.”
The crowd, approximately 500 strong, shouted “Long live the intifada,” as they swarmed the Rockefeller Center Tree where holiday revelers were present.
Signs held by protesters conveyed various messages, with one stating, “While Ur Shopping Bombs are Dropping,” and another reading “No Joy In Genocide,” positioned atop a mock scene covered in what seemed to be fake blood.
Scuffles ensued after nightfall, including incidents outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral, resulting in at least six arrests reported near Grand Central Station and Union Square. The clashes involved disorderly conduct, menacing, and graffiti charges.
As the Union Square crowd dissipated on Monday night, several dozen protesters waving Palestinian flags remained, leaving behind stickers proclaiming “Zionism is terrorism” and “Free Palestine,” along with flyers stating “Murdered by Israel.” Pro-Palestine slogans, such as “From NY to Gaza, Globalize the Intifada,” “Netanyahu is a warmonger,” and “Israel kills babies,” adorned the exterior of the Union Square Holiday Market.
The protest, centered around Manhattan’s popular holiday destination, prompted heightened alertness from law enforcement outside the News Corp headquarters on Sixth Avenue, housing Fox News, The NY Post, the Wall Street Journal, and other company holdings. News Corp had been targeted in previous protests, notably on November 29, when demonstrators stormed the building during a “Flood the Tree Lighting for Gaza” protest, resulting in seven arrests.
