New York, New Jersey and California failed in their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic because of stringent lockdowns and policies, while Florida was among the best-performing states in the country, a new study has found, the NY Post reports.

The study, published by the Committee To Unleash Prosperity, graded states by comparing COVID-19 outcomes based on the number of deaths, the economy and impact on education.

Overall, the bottom 10 on the study’s “report card” were dominated by states that had the most severe pandemic lockdowns and were among the last to finally reopen schools.

“Shutting down their economies and schools was by far the biggest mistake governors and state officials made during COVID, particularly in blue states,” Stephen Moore, one of the study’s authors and co-founder of the Committee To Unleash Prosperity, said Monday.

Despite now-disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo initially being hailed for his strict response to the pandemic, the Empire State performed “poorly on every measure” — ranking 49th overall, according to the study.

New Jersey was the worst-performing state, the study found. Other places that also received an F grade included California, Illinois and Washington, DC. Read more at the NY Post.

  1. The real Cuomo had a cleft chin, hence the covering of the chin of this fake one. Who writes these fabricated articles to fool people into believing the real ones are still around?

    • According to you, everyone whom you dislike has been eliminated, and none of those whom you would vote for again, right?
Could you please try the same magical thinking with Arab terrorists, BLM ferals, and the Iranian leadership?
If that could work, do you know how long the line to your door with kvitlach would be, and how much you could make off pidyoinos?

      • Fake is right! According to you, who is really around? Biden? Netanyahu? Nothing to do with disliking and everything to do with a keen eye. Just look at this guy pictured above. Doesn’t he have a much younger look than the original one? FYI it’s ALLLLL a live movie with actors or CGI which hopefully will end soon.

  2. Junk science from a group of right wing extremist economists.

First, Florida didn’t get “credited” with the cases and deaths it exported to the rest of the country as it encouraged mass spreading events in the Spring Break of 2020. It is suprising that a frum site would negate the damage that such licentiousness and useless frivolity cost.

Second, if you actually look at the pattern of cases and deaths, since the first wave, NY has been doing a lot better than Florida in both. For example, Florida got trashed in the summer of 2020 when NY didn’t have a summer wave at all. More recently, in the Omicron wave, Florida had about twice as many cases and deaths. Florida also had a really nasty wave last September. I was in Florida in August; nobody was wearing masks and the results were no surprise. Darwin proven correct.

Even including the beginning of the pandemic, NY has an overall mortality rate of 3,525 per million while FL has an overall mortality rate of 3,426 per million. California, trashed in the article, is way down the list at 2,266. And the lowest mortality rate of all was Hawaii, at 976. Yet the report trashes Hawaii. The five states with the highest mortality rates are Mississippi, Arizona, Alabama, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

The one thing that DeSantis did do well was in making vaccines widely available throught he Publix supermarket chain. It took a while for Cuomo to get with it on that. But that was before DeSantis turned anti-vaxxer and hired a quack as surgeon general.

    • Certain people will never be proven right. You omit many major points such as the aging population in florida, the no lockdown that went on for way more than you would like to agree, and the most important is that with no lockdown for at least a full year, yet even you have to agree that the numbers didnt reflect what the professional cronies predicted. How could it be with the age and no lockdown it wasnt one in every 10 dead!

Always the so called professional ignoring common sense in place of professionally created hard science.

    • “spreading event”? Spring break are youngsters who have a VERY low rate of spreading. In fact, if they were spreading, then why weren’t they spreading in Florida? In other words, Florida would have been high on the illness scale if these spring breakers really were “spreading”. By the way, how about AOC who was caught in Florida partying without masks with strangers huddle together in jamboree-style festivities clapping and singing (also without masks) and dancing hand-in-hand and face-to-face without masks with stranger. Maybe she was spreading her COVID to Florida.

But the main point is that raw numbers are nothing but obfuscations and bullying – they are not valid indicators because they fail to consider (among other factors) the age of the population. The study “age adjusts” the results. So (for an illustrative example) it is not proper to compare the rate of deaths in a population that is 90% under 35 to the rate of death in a population is 90% over 65 years old. It is necessary to compare separately the rate of deaths of under 35 year olds in each population and then separately compare the rate of deaths of over 65 years old in each population. And it is the properly age-adjusted study that show New York, New Jersey etc way, way bad compared to places like Florida. So I am looking at the table of results in the study, and it groups the comparisons to under 35-yearolds (the young grouping is of necessity a large range because the number of deaths was relatively small and the CDC does not supply “small” numbers which one would find if using such groups as “under 5 year old” per state), 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65-74, 75-854 and above 84 years old.

And even then, there is more than just age. Florida is not only a vacation spot but also a retirement spot were not only old, but also sick people come. How about adjusting for other risk factors besides age, like diabetes and obesity.

And there are other issues not in the study – like which states were the un-willing recipients of un-vetted and un-tested migrants that the Federal government thrust upon the specific states both openly and clandestinely (hint: which states are the closest to the southern border).
