A group of thieves pulled off one of the largest cash heists in Los Angeles history on Sunday. According to the Los Angeles Times, a crew of thieves lifted a whopping $30 million dollars in cash from a GardaWorld money storage facility in Sylmar, on Sunday night. Sources said the burglars were able to breach the building from the roof, and were somehow able to access the safe, without triggering any alarms that would notify the police.
At least one alarm was triggered by the criminals, but it did not notify local law enforcement of the crime, one source told the paper. As such, employees of the storage company didn’t know anything was missing until they arrived for work the next day.
Footage of the building also showed that part of the wall had been removed, and the hole was covered by a piece of plywood. The Los Angeles Police Department and FBI are investigating the incident. GardaWorld has previously come under fire from human rights advocates, for alleged abuses at immigration facilities in the U.S. and Canada. Read more at Los Angeles Times.
