Tragic: Child Dies After Nearly Drowning in Bathtub on Erev Yom Kippur

Tragedy struck as an eight-year-old boy Nofei Prat passed away today at Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital. On Sunday, Erev Yom Kippur, the young boy, Yonatan Moshe Erlichman, nearly drowned in a bathtub.

Yonatan was the beloved grandson of Dr. Mati Erlichman, a prominent Beit El physician who once served as the director of pediatrics at Shaare Zedek. His father, Dr. Ira Erlichman, is also a dedicated medical professional working at Hadassah Hospital. The Erlichman family issued a heart-wrenching statement, saying, “Our Yonatan Moshe passed away a short time ago. On the eve of Yom Kippur, Yonatan went into cardiac arrest in our home, and since then we have struggled by his side after he collapsed. With love, we thank all those dear to us, who were by our side during the last days of his life. Details of the funeral date will be provided later, Yael, Ira, and the girls.”

The tragic incident occurred when Yonatan suffered a cardiac arrest just hours before Yom Kippur while in the bathtub. Rapid response from Magen David Adom (MDA) medics and paramedics, who arrived at the scene within minutes, saw them administer urgent medical care and perform CPR in a desperate attempt to save his life. Although they managed to restore his pulse, he was transferred to Hadassah Hospital in Mount Scopus in a grave condition. In the days that followed, there were glimmers of hope as his condition showed some signs of improvement, but sadly, this morning, he succumbed.
