Trump ‘Can’t Believe’ Biden Will Be Nominee in 2024

Donald Trump, the leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination, expressed his desire for Joe Biden to be the Democratic nominee in 2024 but cast doubt on that possibility in an interview with Breitbart. Trump, in the Thursday night interview published on Friday, remarked, “When you compare him today to 15 or 20 years ago, he’s a different kind of a guy. The guy can’t talk. The guy can’t put two sentences together. So I do think this: I cannot believe he’s going to be the nominee. I hope he is. But I can’t believe he’s going to be the nominee.”

This assertion echoes similar sentiments expressed by Trump earlier this month at a town hall event in Davenport, Iowa, where he stated, “I personally don’t think he makes it.”

In a fundraising event earlier this month, Biden suggested that his decision to run was influenced by Trump’s candidacy, stating, “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running.” Trump’s skepticism about Biden’s nomination aligns with his current 2.3-point lead over Biden in the RealClearPolitics poll average, with 46.8% to 44.5%. While questioning Biden’s viability, Trump also dismissed the possibility of Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the Democratic nominee, envisioning a potential “free-for-all” among Democrats. Some Republicans have speculated that, given Biden’s decline in polls, Democrats may consider alternatives like California Gov. Gavin Newsom or Michelle Obama in the eleventh hour.

Trump elaborated on his perspective, stating, “There will be a point at which it’s a free-for-all.” Regardless of whether Biden emerges as his opponent in 2024, Trump characterized him as a “cheater” and a “scoundrel.” Despite these labels, Trump noted that Biden has consistently portrayed himself as a “really nice guy” throughout his life. Trump humorously remarked, “I laugh when they say, ‘Trump is the evil one, and he’s the nice one.’ That’s the one thing he’s been able to do.”
