Former President Donald Trump revealed that he plans to shut down the Department of Education if he retakes the White House in 2024, the Washington Times reports.

Axing the Department of Education is part of an education platform Trump will announce on March 13, he told reporters at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“It’s time,” Mr. Trump said. “Close it up. When you look at the list of countries, we’re always at the bottom [on education]. We spend more money per pupil and we’re always at the bottom of a list of 40 countries. And we should close it up and let local areas, and frankly, states, handle education.”

  1. Excellent! This is something that’s been mentioned a number of times over the past 10 years or so. The federal government does not belong in the education department. Education belongs on the local level. The Federal bureaucracy has gotten far too big and needs to be cut down immediately.

  2. Education should be overseen by educators. Since we have a woke group of leftists who are more interested in indoctrination of their skewed beliefs, making any reasonable attempt a shouting match at best, we should abolish local school boards as well and promote homeschooling or small group schools. Education has become a misnomer as great as health care.
