In a recent social media post, former President Donald Trump expressed discontent with The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page, labeling it a “mess” and asserting that its influence is on a downward spiral.

“The Globalist “paper” sucks, its influence is badly waning, and the concept of, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, is not exactly music to their ears,” Trump said in an early morning post on his Truth Social page. “They fought me hard in 2016, but when I WON, Rupert Murdoch was the first to call. “Great going,” he said, “lets have lunch.”

Trump said that after his win in 2016, Murdoch, who stepped down as the chair of Fox Corp and News Corp in September, “called often, never getting what he wanted to get, or hearing what he wanted to hear. How did that work out, Rupert?”

Trump contended that Murdoch has abandoned hope in Ron DeSanctimonious, attributing DeSanctimonious’ role as Florida’s Governor to his own influence. Trump criticized DeSanctimonious for allegedly supporting Nikki “Birdbrain” Haley, whom Trump labeled as even more disloyal than Ron. Firm in his belief that 2024 will mark a “GLOBALIST DEFEAT,” Trump predicted a rejection of the Wall Street Journal’s perspectives, asserting they have been consistently inaccurate. He asserted, “Remember, I am leading Haley & DeSanctus by 50 Points, & Crooked Joe by a lot, & the Radical Left Democrats want no part of MAGA, or TRUMP!”

Despite Trump’s strong statements, he refrained from specifying particular Wall Street Journal opinion pieces or editorials that triggered his criticism. Earlier in the week, the publication featured an opinion piece contemplating whether Nikki Haley or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would be the GOP’s primary candidate against Trump in 2024. The article analyzed Haley’s campaign, highlighting her endorsement from Americans for Prosperity Action within the Koch network, citing her consistent performance against Joe Biden compared to Trump or DeSantis.

Additionally, the piece noted DeSantis’s trailing poll numbers in certain states but emphasized his substantial endorsements in Iowa, including support from Gov. Kim Reynolds and evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats. The article concluded by asserting that Trump’s critics, including the White House and media, prefer him to win the nomination as they believe he would be easier to defeat in the general election. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial pages had criticized Trump the previous day for his declaration on Truth Social that he was “seriously looking at alternatives” to Obamacare, accusing him of lacking a concrete plan.

In response to the critique, the paper’s editorial board accused Democrats of distorting the issue, while simultaneously asserting that Trump had no comprehensive healthcare plan of his own.
