CNN reports President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team has indicated to Republicans in Congress that the incoming administration would like to fund a long-promised wall at the Mexican border through the appropriations process.
Throughout the campaign, Trump promised that he would get Mexico to pay for the wall. Transition officials have told House GOP leaders in private meetings they’d like to pay for the wall in a funding bill, a senior House GOP source told CNN. Early Friday morning, Trump tweeted: “The dishonest media does not report that any money spent on building the Great Wall (for sake of speed), will be paid back by Mexico later!” It’s not yet clear how he intends to arrange that retroactive payment by Mexico. Mexican government officials have repeatedly said they will not pay for any such structure. Read more at CNN.
