President Obama has picked the first woman who will head a U.S. combatant command: Air Force General Lori Robinson.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Friday that, pending a Senate confirmation, Robinson will be the next head of the military’s Northern Command. Robinson would become the top general in charge of activities in North America. She currently oversees air forces in the Pacific.
Carter said on Friday: “We have, coming along now, a lot of female officers who are exceptionally strong. And Lori certainly fits into that category.” Read more.
