New documents from Edward Snowden revealed that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his government allowed the NSA to spy during the 2010 G8 and G20 summits in Canada.
During the summits, the U.S. turned its embassy in Ottawa into a security command post, and the NSA briefing describes the plans as “closely co-ordinated with the Canadian partner.”
The targets of the surveillance were not revealed in the documents, however the document does note that the purpose of the spying was for “providing support to policymakers.” Read more at CBC News.
